They do have some of the highest mountains in the world. I went to Manali once. They were allowing sledding and had lots of people walking around on the lower slopes. Skiing there would be....... interesting. Would like to do some higher elevation stuff there sometime.

solomon had this contest for people to propose a dream trip. the winner chose kashmir/gulmarg. then she got to go there with a film crew, cody townsend, and kalen thorien. they got so much snow they couldn't ski some of the trip. gulmarg looks fucking awesome. this is a really cool short film:

If the median poster here can’t handle NYC and its warts I’d hate to see them in Delhi ;)

Kidding of course-I didn’t ski in India-but I did vacation there for three weeks in 2018 and it was one of the best trips of my life. You’ll need a strong stomach-literally and figuratively-but so many great cultural and religious heritage sites, vibrant cities, underrated nightlife, and great scenery in places.

Wow! That’s fantastic!

I visited India before I got serious about skiing. So I didn’t think of skiing there (it was winter when I went).

Fascinating country for sure. Would love to go back.

(And I even managed not getting any stomach issues in my 2 week trip ;) )

Ughhh.. I've never been as sick as I was on my first trip to India.

To be fair... the beautiful mountainous snowy parts are concentrated in a small part of the country well off the normal tourist trail. I'm there for work periodically and while the place and people are fascinating, it's a maddeningly frustrating place to work.

There was a freak lift accident at Gulmarg a few years back that the operator opined was an "act of god."

Gulmarg Gondola Accident.

It's likely the most "exotic" ski destination open to the average American (vs someplace like Iran) and the potential for extended backcountry exploration is unlimited there, as long as one is properly equipped.
