I remember reading about the first and last time they tried to groom the Hobacks at Jackson Hole. The head of grooming kept insisting that it would be impossibel. The owner made him try it. The cat started flying straight down, hit a bump and went airborn for a couple of hundred feet. They never bothered again. One hell of an "I told you so".

Interesting I wonder how long ago that was. I have seen snowcats do some amazing stuff on steeper slopes than the JH Hobbacks. With both the front blade and back rotto arm there isn't much these snow cats can't do. Then again I am very glad they do not groom the Hobbacks.

No disrespect intended but groom the Hobacks, I don't think so.

I once witnessed a groomer lose control and spin out down the hill on Haulback at Sugarloaf. That was some scary stuff. With ideal conditions I'm sure they can do just about anything. But if things are sketchy and someone makes one wrong move look out. That's why they have winch cats.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading an article in either Ski or Skiing a few years ago about groomers as well. It included a crash course on all the controls in case you're interested in hijacking one.
