DT Swiss XRC 1250 Spline Carbon 27.5in Wheelset

Mass is the enemy of almost all bicycle dynamics, but to eliminate weight too aggressively from critical parts of a bike can mean a sacrifice in strength, stiffness, and ultimately, control. What to do? If you're piloting an XC or trail-worthy rig, one no-brainer of an upgrade is a wheelset like the DT Swiss XRC 1250 Spline Carbon 27.5-inch Wheelset, which will cut down your bike's weight enormously, while also likely being a stronger, better-handling pair than whatever you're currently running. In other words, these things may not be cheap, but they are incredible.
The largest contributing factor to any wheel's performance is the rim, and in this case, the XRC comes with a stunning set of hoops. Thanks to precise proprietary construction techniques, the tubeless-ready XRC unidirectional carbon rims are easily strong enough to take a beating on a longer-travel bike, but light enough to ring in the entire set at a feathery 1360 grams, and they still have a relatively wide 21.5mm rim bed. That latter figure is especially impressive to us, but why? Figure that most XC-focused wheelsets' internal rim widths are around 18-19mm, and even some particularly burly all-mountain wheelsets are topping out around 22-23mm. The wider the internal rim width, the stronger the wheel and the larger the volume of the tires, which means not just a wider contact patch, but lower necessary air pressures. In turn, it all means greater speed, traction, and control over virtually any situation on virtually any trail.
The hubs are the heart of the XRC set, however, and they also lend the set its name. DT Swiss' Spline hub technology is the union of their ubiquitous Ratchet System freehub interface with straight-pull-spoke hub flanges. The Ratchet System is so durable, reliable, and easily serviceable that it's by far the most commonly licensed freehub system on the market by other manufacturers. Straight-pull spokes eliminate the "J" bend of traditional ones, which is the weakest area of the spoke and the site of far more wheel system breakages than any other. J-bend spokes also flex more than straight-pull spokes, robbing wheels of their "snap" and responsiveness compared to straight-pull wheelsets, which are far more reactive to power input for better acceleration and, ultimately, more confidence to dig in.
The bottom line is a superbly fast, strong, and reactive wheelset that's quick enough for the XC race circuit but tough enough to take some jumps and drops on an epic all-mountain ride. We won't lie and say they're not pricey, but your money buys you the last wheelset you may ever need to own.
The DT Swiss XRC 1250 Spline Carbon 27.5-inch Wheelset comes with adapters to run either Centerlock or 6-bolt brake rotors. The set also includes tape for tubeless tire setups. The front wheel comes ready for a 15mm thru-axle, while the rear is for 142x12mm thru-axles. If you'd like to run a SRAM one-by drivetrain, you'll need to order DT Swiss' XD driver body separately.
