Elk Mountain:

cord:

Trip Report: Decided to take a vacation day yesterday and head up to Elk. Never been. Arrived ~ 10AM to a virtually deserted mountain. 1/2 dozen empty chairs between each skier. Untracked cord well past noon. What a wonderful mountain! Love the evergreens they plant on the side of the trails. Gives it a nice "Vt" feel to it. Skied all the trails doing sweeps, favs probably Iroquois and tuscarora. Slalom and the wide open blvd-like slope of susquehenna is pretty cool to. Great sustained steeps for a 1k hill. Best I've experienced for a mountain that size. Skied until 5PM, then had to make the 2+ hr drive home.

Only complaint was the slow chair lifts. You could bomb it down in seconds only to have another 7-min ride up to the top. Well, that and they would not let you eat food at the bar.....

Awesome place. I have to get back there.

Sounds like conditions are good, which is great for me because I'm going there Saturday. Glad you had a good time.

Nice. I had a chance to chat with some locals. After the latest rain episode they groomed down all the bumps on tunkhannock and started over. They have been blowing like crazy since then and soft ones are getting skiied in. Good stuff yesterday; I'm not very good at bumps so I passed the stuff on the headwall and tucked in lower down. They are still going strong with the re-work. Guns were blasting when I left. Conditions should be nothing short of excellent this weekend.

Camelback had to do the same thing on Asp. They were skiing in nicely again by Saturday afternoon. Sure am enjoying our Pocono's this year. These areas (CBK, Elk and Blue) keep this up and you'll get plenty of bump practice by the end of the season.
