Officials at New Mexico’s Sandia Peak ski area, high above Albuquerque, have already thrown in the towel on the 2012-13 ski and snowboard season. Although the closing is taking place a month ahead of schedule, it’s hard to blame the resort when 32 inches of snowfall season to date has resulted in base depths that reach only 14 inches. Only the resort’s beginner lift and slope were able to open at all this year.

This is suprising only because Im pretty sure Flaggstaff has had some huge dumps (3 foot plus) this year, guess they are far enough apart for different systems.

In other news.. it didn't snow at all in Death Valley this season.

Looking at the picture it seems like Sandia is a really rocky place... they probably need a solid base to be skiable.

This on the same day that they had to suspend play at the PGA Tour's Accenture World Match Play tournament in Arizona because of cold and snow!!

This was a picture from today

It is high but in the middle of a high desert all by itself. And to boot it is on the backside of sloping butte for lack of a better description which northeast side.

I saw on their Facebook page some season pass holders who weren't too happy. I think they've deleted those comments now.
