As much as I hate the ski area Vail, the town itself is pretty cool, even if it is faux European. Not to mention they have a very efficient bus system

My favorite ski town is Stratton, Maine. By my personal criteria, it's perfect: great school, supportive community, politically progressive, located on the east coast, Sugarloaf, Saddleback, some of the best four-season recreational opportunities in New England, and I can afford to live here too. But that's just me.

I'll agree the location is great, ski area wise. I haven't been there in a few years but I will be driving through later this month. Have any new eateries or lodging opened in the last few years?

Lodging is pretty much the same. The Spillover is always working on improvements and upgrades - they do a good job. Stratton Diner is now closed.
The new Coplin Dinner House is highly recommended (it's right next door to the Spillover also). It is pricy, but an amazing new restaurant: https://www.facebook.com/TheCoplinDinnerHouse

I can't call Salt Lake a ski town, an airport maybe, but not a ski town. Not even the Bench's qualify IMO. Park City is the only "Ski Town" in Utah. (and I'm not really a fan) Aspen was pretty much my first, favorite and lasting impression of what a "Ski Town" should be. In the east I go with Cannonball's hometown Lincoln. Decent strip, eatery/bar selection (a DD a must for me) Got to be able to walk (or bike) to lift.

If Lincoln is referring to Lincoln, NH, its not surprising you're not a fan of Park City. Lincoln NH is basically a bunch of strip malls, chain stores and restaurants strung together between traffic lights on the Kancamagus Highway (yes, highway). Don't believe I've ever seen anyone walking or biking to Loon on it either, but I have seen people taking the chairlift from Park Ave/Main Street Park City.

been to 7 and 1 without snow. Bend, Oregon really is a great town, about 20 minutes from Mt. Bachelor. (there is only base lodges at the mountain.)

But that's what most people say when they are referring to Jackson. The magazine wasn't pedantic. It's hard to fault them for that.

Whenever I see lists like this, particularly in a magazine like Forbes, I think about wanting to go to the towns not on the list like Whitefish, MT or Sandpoint, ID or Silverton, CO. Of the ones listed that I haven't been to Telluride and JH intrigue me the most.
