Formula R1 Racing Disc Brake

POLSI.jpg

Ready to grace top-tier cross-country race bikes, the Formula R1 Racing Disc Brake is the result of over twenty years of high-performance disc brake technology that's been fine tuned and devolved in motorsport racing. The result is a 270 gram disc brake that offers the power, modulation, and ergonomics that keep aggressive riders satisfied and fresh throughout the most grueling races.
Based on the already ridiculously light Formula R1, the Racing model adds titanium hardware and a carbon fiber lever blade to drop even more heft. Like the R1, the Racing uses a stiff forged radial master cylinder with a high capacity integrated reservoir. The large reservoir combined with a redesigned diaphragm gives the R1 Racing excellent heat dissipation and a consistent lever feel on sustained descents, even in extreme heat. A flip-flop master cylinder allows you to run moto-style without changing lines or bleeding. The R1 Racing is compatible with the Mixmaster shifter perch (available separately) if you'd like to de-clutter your cockpit.
Down at the caliper, Formula uses large, 22mm, heat-dissipating composite pistons which are cupped to offer increased surface area for heat to be eliminated. The caliper is a one-piece design that resists power loss to flex. Top load pads (the R1 Racing comes with alloy backed organic pads) make replacement a simple process even with the wheel in place. The caliper body features large openings at the top and bottom to assist with moving heat away as quickly as possible.
Formula uses light, yet strong Kevlar braided brake lines to prevent hose expansion when the system is under extreme pressure. They also employ DOT 4 brake fluid, which is less temperature-sensitive than mineral oil. The end result is a cool running, high powered, and consistent brake that won't go soft mid-descent.
Formula finishes the R1 Racing off with a high quality polish and an anodized red cap on the calipers that screams performance. The price reflects all the parts, save for the rotor which is sold separately in three sizes -- 160mm, 180mm, and 203mm -- each with the appropriate adapters. Formula includes titanium caliper mounting and rotor bolts with the R1 Racing.
Please note: almost all hydraulic brake lines need to be cut to size before a bike is properly shod with hydraulic disc brakes. You'll need a quality cable-cutter like the Park CN-10 and a spoke to first cut and then de-crimp the housing.
