If you have Goretex gear then you can ski a few runs before you get totally drenched. The secret is to take the gondola up (at Killington) and ski fast back down. BTW, the snow conditions while it's raining are awesome.

I skied 52 days last year. Women who don't ski don't realize how much fun it is to be a female ripper on the hill with all the dudes. My husband is an awesome skier but people are always surprised when I'm kicking butt on powder days and in spring slush bumps. I swear it's 90% guys those days. It's fun to turn heads with your ability even when you know you are really not that good compared to many other skiers. It's just that being out there skiing hard is rare for females to do.

I'm lucky in that I have a few female friends that love to ski. I met these people on the mountain. One of them is my ski buddy. She is a better skier than I am especially in moguls but I've taken her through some tree runs that she had never been before so we push each other to do better and try new terrain.

The wet clothing is what keeps me from skiing in moderate to heavy rains but i agree the conditions are great in the rain. I had a great time one day last year skiing in a thick fog which softened up the snow very nicely.

I have a couple of hooded Gore-Tex shells and Gore-Tex shell pants. With a rubber goggle wipe on my thumb and a couple of spare pairs of gloves, I can stay out until I run out of gloves. Everything else stays completely dry.

How do you keep water from coming in from the collar?

I've skied in moderate rain and agree the snow condition is awesome. But my top half was soaked after about an hour, even though my hands and bottom half were still bone dry.

It wasn't cold (otherwise it would have been coming down as snow). But it's still down right unpleasent to be soaking wet.

I think the hood part does it.

Regarding gloves... I want to try rain skiing with a pair of neoprene diving gloves. 3 -4 mm. Your hands will be wet anyway, I'd be willing to bet the wet suit like gloves would keep them warm regardless and dexterous to boot.

You know those credits Greg talks about all winter long? Banking for ski trips? Well, I let him go on some ski trips and then I get one of my own. Kids stay home with daddy. Only problem is that I can't afford to do the big CO trip every year... SIGH. The Ski Diva is the place to be to hook up with other women skiers, though. They're planning a trip to Tahoe, IIRC, next year with a clinic. Too expensive for me but I'm sure I'll get together with some of the Divas for an Okemo day trip and perhaps, if I'm REALLY lucky, another Mother's Day trip to A-basin.

The hood of my jacket isn't big enough to put over the helmet. But I can't figure out how to fit it under...

So get a better jacket. There are plenty out there that have hoods big enough to go over a helmet. I have a couple of Arc'Teryx Stingray soft shells with that feature. It's also great when it's subzero. You can pop the hood up for thermal control going up the lift.
