Lord help us.
Why???? Nothing more honorable than giving up your time to help out an entire state...
Politics, but the problem was the restrictions on the bailout money. He actually wanted to use it to solve SC's debt issues. Heaven forbid he use it to solve problems instead dumping $700m down the toilet. It depends who the person is. I mean...how about that guy from S.C. First he (on his own) determines that since he is philosophically opposed to the federal "bail-out", that he wouldn't accept the $700m that the feds were going to give SC. Then, once the SC Supreme Court forces him to take the money, the guy disappears for a few days...only to have an aid said he went for a hike on the AT. I mean, yeah, I love to hike too...but I'm sure he could find something to do in the capital building in these economic times!

Him taking a fairly inexpensive vacation sounds like a good thing to me. And the legislature is out of session, so the only reason it got any attention at all is that he isn't in contact with the rest of the world. Had he spent a weekend in Las Vegas or going to a Broadway show on a private jet with his wife because he promised it to her during the election or looking at dogs for his daughters, etc., there may have been a small story run in S.C., but no national attention. I work with a guy who refuses to give out contact information when he goes on vacation, should we be running national stories about him? Really, the news media was massively irresponsible on this one. The governor didn't go missing, he just went on vacation during a legislative break.
I predict if he wins, he will take out massive loans to annex the rest of New England, and then end up having to sell off the states, with Massachussetts getting split into two and New Hampshire being sold to the Sultan of Brunei.
Bottom line is isn't just a "philosophical" difference, it was a difference in economic policy. Paying down debt load means lower taxes or more government employees, both which provide their own stimulus benefits that would actually be sustainable.Err, it's stimulus money. Not pay down your dept money.
He didn't completely disappear. His staffers knew in general where he was. If there really was a crisis in which the governor would actually be anything more than a mouthpiece, it wouldn't be that hard to find him.The dude is a Governor of a pretty big state. You might want to stay in touch in case of emergency or at least put someone else in charge while you are gone ...

Or maybe he just thinks that spending your way out of a debt crisis is insane. But then, states don't have the ability to print money.

Let's avoid political discussions here folks.....
To expand, talking about LBO running is fine, getting into discussions on his politics or taking on political positions is not a good idea.
We might be shocked...One way or the other...LOL.Lord help us.
