Ya Sven!

This time of the year there is nice...long days.

But it goes the other way in the Fall...long nights.

Many think the long winter darkness contributes to a high suicide rate.

They say suicides increase in Winter..
But everyone I talk to says it's no big deal.. they adjust their work hours between summer and winter...

The people here are seriously cool... Very genuine..

I visited there years ago in the Fall, October I think.

I enjoyed it a great deal.

And the only thing I needed getting used to was the fact that in the Fall they start their work day at 5:30am and they're all heading into the bars by 3:00pm.

So in those days, I had to adjust my drinking schedule.

Very Cool. What's with the guard? He looks like he's ready for an attack! :-o

Sounds like ski season.

My wife is scandinavian and I've spent quite some time in Norway visiting her family. Beautiful place. Be sure to drink some aquavit, Doug. You'll never have anything quite like it. See if you can get there in the summer sometime. Drinking a beer at midnight under the sun is bizarre to say the least.

How far north did you get?
I highly recommend making the trip up to Riksgrantsen if time allows.
I'm not sure about May, but in June they let you ski well into the "midnight".

Last nights dinner...
Sweden_diiner.jpg

We drove an hour or so north of Skelleftia to a cabin in the woods where this guy hunts for everything he serves... it was pretty cool...
Fresh arctic trout, reindeer, moose, veggies and an incredible berry sauce... All served on wooden plates wtih wooden utinsils... Which we threw in the fire when we were done...

After diner we drank coffee from wooden cups
