Resort or Ski Area: Gunstock Ski Area, NH
Conditions: Bright sun, 30's, frozen granular to loose granular, softening? Crowded but manageable.
Trip Report: Had a real nice day at Gunstock with the spouse and son (home from college for the long weekend). Thanks for billski for the Liftopia gift card number.
There were a good number of people for a holiday weekend, lines for the HSQ were 5-10 minutes when we went on and lines even built up to around 5 minutes or so for the Pistol triple. Trails were not too crowded in the morning but some of the more popular routes from the summit did get crowded in the afternoon. We pretty much wandered around the area and hit many trails once but didn't go on too many multiple times. If we had more time I would have hit Upper Recoil again.
Conditions were frozen granular with some slick spots early on. Coverage was great on all of the groomed trails. As the day went on and the trails had some sun exposure conditions changed to a loose granular and almost softened up to a spring-like surface. Even with the sun, however, one had to be on guard for slick spots under the loose sugar snow. There were a few narrower traverses which had a lot of loose granular, which I guess is better than hardpack but still isn't all that pleasant for me to deal with.
Here are a few scenery shots...been getting a bit frustrated with our P&S camera lately:
