This story is BADASS!!!!My time in was spent drinking and avoiding trouble. My only accomplishment is getting an honorable discharge. some of the very best and very worst times in my life though, wouldn't trade it for the worldMy good ski friend Giz is a Marine. He served in Vietnam.
He's a tough old guy.. Currently finishing up successful cancer treatments...
He got some sort of medal for defending his position from an enemy onslaught.. Almost single handed..
Giz has always been a smoker.. He's quit because of cancer - but he always smoked...
He's also French Canadian so he likes his food spicy..
While he was in Vietnam - in some trench in a jungle - he ran out of Tabasco sauce for his MREs..
He started trading his precious cigarettes for the sauce.. He finally got the trade and put the Tabasco sauce on a ledge in the trench..
A while later some shots rang out - the Vietcong was attacking.. He looked over at his shelf and one of the rounds took out his Tabasco Sauce.. He FREAKED OUT... Grabbed a rifle and in his anger -proceeded to take out most of the enemy infiltrating the trench....
He got a medal for defending his fellow Marines... But mostly he was pissed he lost his Tabasco and had no cigarettes...
Giz is awesome... And I thank him every Vets day...
Semper Fi!!!!
I didn't see any combat, but I was stationed in Berlin when the Wall came down. Cold War Germany was a fun place to be.
