I'm about 2/3 through the latest one, and one thing keeps striking me (through all of them, so far)- as oblivious and self-centered as everyone seems to be, how has Voldemort not taken over completely by now? He can't be that tough, if he can't get past some of the yahoos that are supposed to be fighting him. Geez.

I saw four people on the train this morning reading it. Personally, I think the best thing about the books is that they've gotten so many people to read. They're pretty well written, adn a good story, too, so that helps...

Well, keep in mind that we're focusing on a community of students, primarily 16-17 year olds; oblivious and self-centered people by the nature of their age!

Ok, so my wife and I are at odds about the ending.

I believe that Harry is right on about Snape, which is the obvious conclsion.

However, my wife feels that Dumbledore's "please" was a pre-arranged plan that Snape should kill him for some as-yet revealed purpose. Perhaps to further his cover?

I think McGonnigal will run the school next "year", Harry will return, and the final battle will take place at the school. Dumbledore's conclusion that Riddle is drawn to the school will bring the final battle there.

Also, I think Harry IS the last Horcrux. That would explain the "connection" he has with Voldemort. How this plays out in the end, I'm afraid to guess.
