I do not see where it says you can't. My friend and I have been wanting to try the other side of Mount Washington for years now. I am a bit sick of the zoo scene at Tuck's. Has anybody here done it/heard of it?

For reference, we are both EXPERT riders (like, 30 years of skiiing/riding), are avy trained and have shovel, pieps and probes. So, no lectures, please.

Hey Wookie. Welcome to the boards! Have you ever hiked the Ammo? I can't imagine that there are many areas wide enough to ski it. Maybe there are some areas near treeline that have snow that could support skiing, but once you get in the trees is pretty steep and narrow. Dunno though. I just never heard of anyone skiing that area.

Glad to be here - found the board while googling info on this trail!

I have not hiked it, but I am not scared to. I regularly ride down very steep & narrow trails like the Monroe Trail On Camel's Hump, etc. If it's wide enough to turn my board sideways, it's wide enough.

However, now I am thinking of checking out the cog trail, if they let you.

I will gladly split-board up it, if the train is closed & it is allowed.

Anybody know about this route, too?

I have heard many tales of people skiing "the back side of Washington", but unfortunately i can't help you out on exactly where.

hi wookie Pete!

Welcome to the board! I am not familiar with that particular trail myself, but if you're interested in the area and other trails, get yourself a copy of David Goodman's "Backcountry Skiing Adventures" in Maine & New Hampshire, published by the AMC (Applachian Mountain Club)

an updated version is supposed to be out soon, if not already, which might be more informative for snowboarders now - the last version I read was somewhat helpful in describing if a slope was too flat, or too difficult/narrow for a board, or tougher/easier to get to with a board, but you could tell it wasn't that focused on it.

Expert skiers ski the Ammo Ravine itself and say it is "wild!"

No one I spoke to this weekend would even attempt to ski the Ammo Ravine Trail. The co-author of the AMC's White Mtn Guide, 27th edition called it "suicide. "

So you probably would be the first. Let us know how you made out. Good luck!
