The incredible action does not start until about March. Yes, do check out Kevins links. It tells you when it is safe and the skiing begins. This is one of the greatest places to ski. Even on a Monday 100's come to ski, board, and to watch.

Unless there is fresh snow, you are unlikely to need snowshoes for the hike up the Tuckerman Ravine trail. In addition to steady hiker traffic, the snow cat drives up there on a regular basis.

Two hours is a good estimate to get up to HoJos, but obviously people hike at different speeds. From there it's at least another half hour to the base of the ravine. Check avy conditions before heading up, but unless you plan on climbing up the walls of the ravine you aren't likely to enter avy terrain.

Conditions on Jan 1 can range from rainstorm to snowstorm to bright sunshine and t-shirt weather. No way of predicting that far ahead.

I'm hoping to get up there and do a day the first or second week of January..
It's looking really great for this time of year.. Left Gully is totally rideable..

And yes - I will bring my avi gear as well as obey the avi warnings... :)
