Savvy business. One example: one of my work buddies has a full IKON pass and paid for the Solitude "Reserve" Program that gets him line-cutting privileges and free parking. Last week Solitude announced that they are ending parking fees on Fridays to goose traffic. I saw him yesterday and jokingly asked him if Alterra sent him an apology and a partial refund, fully expecting him to laugh and say, "not at all!" Instead, he told me that Solitude sent him an apology and a $50 credit for next season due to this change. I was shocked. Good on them.
A bad season is bad for the mountain. There’s no way around it. But if we look at the two business practices: season pass sale vs day ticket sales, clearly the season pass sale is better for the mountain. They’ve already got the cash! Yes, it will affect their pass sale next year. But they can offer all kinds of incentives to help with that. Without the cushion of season pass sales, they would have been hit with the total collapse of day ticket sale.
So it wouldn’t shock me there maybe a good renewal incentives for next year’s pass.
