Cardboard Box Derby - CANCELLED

Due to the inclement weather on the weekend of March 13-14, we've decided to cancel the Cardbpard Box derby so that we can concentrate on providing the best skiing and riding conditions during our Winter Carnival. We will still have live music, plenty of giveaways and other fun activities.

Was at Hunta today. Absolutley great and they still have a ton of snow though it was a warm one today. Got to ski everything I wanted except Westway. Talked to 2 patrolers who came down it as I came down Clairs and they said the top was pretty rough so I skipped it. Everything on the main face was baking potatos. Big time tanning.

OMG Alex -- all I can think of is you were there before the sun came around -- we did 5 runs on 44 after about 1:30 and it was as awesome as I've ever seen it -- guess the old adage "timing is everything" surely applies here!

Ouch. That was always one of my favorite runs when I frequented Hunter back in the 80's and I have heard it hasn't always been open all the time in the last few years so I really wanted to ski it. K-27 was awesome to ski again and Racers Edge and Clairs were my favorite runs of the day.

Oh the horror! Hunter cancelled the Cardboard Box Derby. Never mind that they're holding a new event still that they never have held before (Winter Carnival). And this is important enough for a thread with exactly zero information in it. As you say, "Hmmmmmmmmmmm".

If I was in the process of building my boxcar I would appreciate knowing the event was cancelled as you would not know unless you stumbled on it on the website.
I know there were some local kids working on one for weeks - I wonder if they know.

This is not a new event - just renamed. Used to be ShopDaze. The box event would have been new to the mountain this year. The paraskiing is not new, just absent for the last 2 years. It is an interesting event but most people ignore it. Closes down a trail at Hunter 1.

Drag the sled on upto Mount Snow, Sunday the 28th if you want to. That's when their "Duct tape Derby" is.

Of course you'll have to contend with myself, and Vcunning (as defending "Judges Choice Award" winners) and Glenn from this board and our entry :) ;)

I'm thinking of a Hunter trip on Saturday. I've never hit the Westside on a truly slushy day...looking forward to it!
