HUNTER, NY — On course with Mother Nature's recent and ongoing antics, Hunter Mountain officially began making the white stuff on Monday morning, November 8, 2004. The pumps and compressors were fired up and the valves were opened to start the snowmaking season. With two very cold nights ahead, and possible round-the-clock operation through Tuesday night, Hunter’s team of snowmakers is taking full advantage of this early season cold snap to see what a new and improved pumphouse can do.
Improvements to Pumphouse #2, which services the upper half of the mountain, will help enhance Hunter’s snowmaking. These improvements will produce more snow on the upper portion of Hunter and Hunter West, ultimately resulting in faster recovery rate of production, and better snow. Pumphouse #2 was revamped with new lines, new pumps and a fully automated snowmaking system.
While an official opening date has not been announced, a November 13th debut is not out of the question. Keep checking back to www.HunterMtn.com for snowmaking progress and information updates.
