Resort or Ski Area: Hunter Mountain

Conditions: Very variable, ranging from ice, to soft powder. All depended on where the sun hit. Heuga and Belt were icy and in terrible shape all day. (Didn't try Way Out, looked terrible). Hellgate, Minya, and ESD were good.

Trip Report: Got there around 10AM, and went up, Hellgate looked good, so we did a nice lap on it, nice snow, although a bit firm at that time. Then it was over to Heuga.....beyond terrible is the only way to describe it, the entire trail was one giant sheet of ice. Did a run on belt, some bad bare spots, but not too bad. Spent the rest of the day doing Hellgate, Minya, and East Side Drive.

Hellgate-A bit firm in the morning, softened up nicely though, great until late in the afternoon, completely flat, no bumps at all.

Broadway, very soft snow, some bumps developed toward the end of the day.

Eisenhower and Way Out--Looked terrible, didn't try it.

Minya Konka/Lower Crossover-The best trail of the day. A couple bad spots on Lower Crossover. Most people kept away because of the thin cover sign, but the snowguns started going on around 12:45, and the trail just kept getting better.

Heuga Expressway/Drop-off -Entire trail was a sheet of ice, with a lot of bare spots. Should definitly not have been open. Guns went on along the whole trail starting around 1PM, but there is no way it will be even remotely skiable without a lot of snowmaking.

East Side Drive-Hardpack, but okay, Minya Konka was far better. Large bare spot at the cut-over to Lower Crossover.

Belt Parkway- Pretty poor, the upper section was only about 10 feet wide because of a couple of bare spots that extended almost all the way across the trail. Lower section had some loose powder, but solid ice underneath, the conditions wound up pushing a lot of people onto Hellgate.

It was a pretty good day, with some nice snow to be found. The peak was a large ice cap due to all the wind. (Quad actually was shut down for a little while when I got there) At 4pm as we were leaving, snowguns started going on, on Belt, Hellgate, and Hunter One, and possibly ESD (couldn't tell, but there was more snow rising from that area than before)
