I am going to Hunter Mountain tomorrow for the first time. I am a snowboarder who likes to ride the mountain. I was looking at the trail map and its hard to tell what is good to ride. I see there are a lot of double blacks and blacks. I want to stay away from mogols. Any advice on which trails I should hit? Thanks

If you don't like moguls, I'd suggest staying off the double blacks. Racer's Edge is the only one that often will NOT have moguls. Other than that, Ike (Eisenhower), is the only other trail that generally has moguls. You should be fine with all of the other single diamond runs and Belt Pkwy.

Also, to save you a bit of frustration, the flat spots on the mountain are: the very bottom of lower crossover/milky way, if you're trying to keep going down the hill to the base, you'll probably have to hop a little.

Hmm, what else. Oh. Hellgate and Minya both may have bumps on the inside of the "turn" into them, but won't have any at the lowest "entrance", or once you get on the trail. You'll get what I mean when you see it.

Basically, if you can ski diamonds at most places, you should have a good day at Hunter. If you can ski only intermediate trails, you'll have a challenging day.

Thanks. Yes, I can ride diamonds so it should be a good day. I'll watch out for flat spots and mogols.

I can't stay home, recieved the lift tickets as a christmas gift. From the hunter website on eSKi. You can't change days. I'll be pissed if the Quad isn't running tomorrow.

That wouldn't make sense to do work on the quad on a Sunday. If they were doing any sort of planned work, they'd wait till midweek.

Unfortunately there will be a lot of moguls..I think. But they aren't fields, just spaced out bumps and I see a lot of boarders do them pretty well. just don't hit Clairs or Anapurna...much pain will ensue!!!

They can work on it tomorrow from 12am to 9am and than again from 4pm to 11pm. That would be fine with me. They better just not work on it tomorrow from 9am to 4pm.

Thanks for the clarification. It seems my calendar is fine. It's my reading comprehension that's off.

I would go ski and I would also complain. They should give you another free ticket. They will know you are coming because Hunter management reads this forum.

Hunter tends to develop bumps on most of the expert runs, but usually only on a portion of each trail. As of Saturday, Annapurna was not particularly bumped up -- it must have been recently groomed -- but that may have changed. Very few runs (Claire's, Lower K-27, Upper Crossover) tend to have wall-to-wall bumps. If you don't like misshappen bumps with icy patches/troughs, stay away from Claire's in particular--its a fun run, but it can be a challenge.

I think snowboarders tend to enjoy a lot of the runs on the front side with lots of undulating terrain: Minya Konka, Eastside Drive, Huega, Eisenhower, etc. Since you're going on a Monday, you should have the mountain to yourself. With all the recent snow, everything will be rideable, even for the bump-avoider. Enjoy!

Quad stayed opened the entire day. I think it might have closed for 20 mins or so when I was inside. Great conditions. Lots of snow, no ice until late in the day.
