Awesome.

Have they opened yet, dmc? Have you gotten out yet?

Not open yet... I'm not going to hike with the guns on...
They are pretty busy up there.. Kinda selfish for me to get in the way...

But. it's looking very very good right now.. even if we get a little sleet and then cold it won't matter much.. probably be good for the base...

looking good but just an observation ... when you look at the trail layout, hunter does not look like a place where you'd say let me put me a ski area. on the upper mtn all the trail are carved across the fall line through the rock & cliff bands. nothing drops straight down the mtn.

Thats why I ski the backside.... :) and the trails that follow the falline...

See - back in the day... You could blast the shit out of a mountain... And Hunter was built by guys that built roads and bridges... So I think they did what they thought they needed to do... It really wouldn't be skiable without the cuts... But when I'm riding it - i dont even notice the cuts in fact I like riding next to rock...

It had a ski trail in the 30's... Trying to figure out where it ran...

It does look good. I hope they open soon. I understand about staying out of the way... I feel the same (not that I have anywhere nearby to hike, unless I want to hike nashoba...) Looks great though, can't be too far away.

Hunter is unique in that way. Three main "S-shaped" routes down the front. It's a real rocky place. It would be tough to drop straight down the fall line on the front. There are several steep shots though, Lower K, Upper X-over, Racer's.... The West side reminds me a bit of the North Face at Snow and is a much more typical ski trail layout. In any event, Hunter's funkiness always humbles me. I tend to ski like crap there. The mountain does create some great skiers because of the atypical layout, no doubt.

Awesome.

Just saw this on the blog:

Right now, the guns are on the main line: Hellgate , Broadway, Kennedy along with the Belt, Minya, Lower Crossover, Off-Broadway. Mossy, Ike, and Hunter One.

There looks to be a slight burp on Tuesday into Wednesday but as of now the guns will be turned on in full force to make up for all that lost time. On Wednesday the roar of the snow guns will be heard from the West Side on Wayout with the plan of moving to Clair's by Saturday.

Once they get going, that mountain gets it done.
