In 1978, I was going to college in Albany with 17,000 New Yorkers who were 99.9% Yankee fans, and the rivalry was possibly more toxic than now. When the Sox blew the AL East lead but then tied it on the last day of the season, it was almost more intense than this past week. Then the Sox lost, mainly because of Bucky Dent's home run, but also becasue of Lou Pinella's two amazing catches in right field (see the video on ESPN Classic for more info). I was CRUSHED, but life went on.....

Then in 1986, the Sox were leading 5-3 in the 10th against the Mets with 2 out and 2 strikes on 3 separate batters, and then the ball went thru Buckner's legs... I was CRUSHED again, but life went on.....

In 1999, Pedro had the most amazing season any pitcher ever had, and the Sox won the Wild Card. But in the playoffs against the Yanks, they got a couple really bad calls in Yankee Stadium, and lost in 5 games. Once again, I was CRUSHED, but life went on......

Last year - 2003 - Grady Little makes the single most idiotic managerial baseball move in the past 100 years, and the Sox blow a 5-2 lead to lose 6-5 in 11 innings.. I was CRUSHED and SWORE I would never, ever be taken in again. I lived with this promise until the Sox traded Nomar on July 31, 2004.

I have been a Red Sox fan since the Impossible Dream team of 1967, and have never seen anything like last night. It's almost too good to be true.............I feel like Superman today.........it's so gratifying to never have to listen to Yankee crap anymore since they are now guilty of the biggest collapse in baseball history, much worse than the Sox in 1978. Have a great winter Yankee fans.........win or lose in the Series, the Sox will never have to put up with this crap ever again.....

Really nice that they went on from the Yankee series with all the momentum in the world and swept the Cardinals. Now there's too much championship merchandise to buy!

I love the Sox too!
