Seems silly to take $50 cash over $100 at Backcountry.com. There is nothing that you regularly buy that you can get there and save $100? I mean, 100 is more than 50.I'll take the $50 up front.
They made major changes to the insurance and refundability.
No more deferral option, but you can pay more for a refundable pass and the date is now mid January. Good option for those that make on big trip per year but would cancel based on conditions. Downside is the deferral was a good alternative to using insurance if an injury occurs off season that prevents using the pass. My wife broke her ankle in November a few years back and just deferred to the following season.
The insurance looks like it's just for injuries now and not pass insurance. No prorated refund for season ending injury or illness.
I stopped using them for that exact reason as well but wiling to revisit for free $.I have to say that I am also thinking about the Backcountry perk (especially since I realized that I could only afford the waffles and not hot chocolate at Stratton).
My only reservation and the reason that I don't order from them is that they don't offer free shipping (although I guess they would for purchases over $150). They almost certainly don't for returns.
I stopped ordering from them when I had to return something a few years back and had to pay for the shipping for the return in addition to paying for shipping for the purchase. I remember not being happy since the cause was damaged package/product.
IKON also needs to get their act together: their fine print in one part says that the $100 credit won't be available until June 1 although on another part, it says that the credit can be used starting Mar 12 (yesterday). Which is it?
