Info for Sint Maarten/St. Martin

I am headed to the island of St. Maarten in the Carribean on November 3 with my girlfriend for a week of fun in the sun . Any of you AZ'ers been there? If so do you have any inside tips? We are staying at La Vista Beach Resort in Pelican Key. I am considering renting some scooters for a couple days but am hoping to use mostly public transportation.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'll be there on Tues Oct 31....my mom is taking the whole family (mom,dad, me, wife, my 2 kids, my bro, his wife and their 2 kids) on the Disney Cruise for 7 days...we set sail Sat out of Port Canavral, 2 days at sea, St Marteen, then St Thomas, a day at sea, then the disney island of Castway Cay, day at sea back to port....my bro and I are doing the 12Meter Sailing http://www.12metre.com/ .....have fun..

My wife and I got off the cruise ship in Phillipsburg and asked the cabbie to take us to the best beach on the island. 30 minutes later we had gone over the mountain to the French side and he dropped us off at Orient Beach. The day was great, the sun was out, it was 82*F, and all of a sudden there were naked people walking past us. Not crowds of them, but a few and some of them really had no business walking around without clothes on. But, there were some who definitely did the human body proud. I seem to recall a certain 20-something French girl with only a bikini bottom on, and there was also a young black man whose endowment was a source of wonder to every woman within eyeshot as he ran into the waves.

And it's fine to hang out there with your clothes on - probably 90% of the beach was in regular beachwear. But if you get adventurous.......

Saint Martin is great, Sint Maarten was just OK. The Dutch side seemed a bit more beat up to me. The food and drink on the French side was wonderful, no surprise. The beaches are beautiful all the way around. Lots of wind - there were rental boats and day cruisers everywhere. Honestly, we were only there for maybe 24 hours, but it was great. I'd love to go back for a week.......have fun......

orient beach is clothing optional. the rest of the island is more clothed, but a lot of topless sunbathers!!
ps don't forget the sunscreen

We were there last July for an afternoon. We were staying on Anguilla (across the bay). Sorry pal...we just hung out in the square, had lunch and cruised the streeets for the afternoon.

Thanks for all the replies so far guys! It sounds like I dont even need to pack clothes for this trip! Just apply copious amounts of sunscreen and enjoy!

I've found a couple spots in Phillipsburg that have a billiard table ;-) .Lets see how much money I can take off the locals! Do they shoot pool naked too?

I never thought I would be looking forward to a vacation south of the Rockies in my life but I am actually really psyched!

We are leaving Friday morning and wont be back until nest Saturday.

I'll be bringing my Twister game and lots of peanut oil to Orient Beach!

Well i'm back from my trip to Sint Maarten! OMG, what a great place to visit but I must say i'm glad to be back in NH. If anyone on AlpineZone needs info for this island paradise just drop me a PM and i'll be glad to give some advice on anything!

St Martin actually has 2 world famous beaches.. Of course there is Orient Beach for obvious reasons, but among airliner afficionados there is nothing in the world like Maho Beach,. the small beach just to the south of SXM airport. Just go to www.airliners.net and put in SXM in the search box. You'll be amazed at the number of amazing low level photos they've got.

People flock to that beach in the afternoon and just hang out there waiting for the big birds to arrive.
