Is it worth going to Gore Mountain in NY this year?

So is Gore 2600+ vert

Gore is good hill but i pretty sure Sugarloaf is bigger if wasn't so far from NYC i would go to Maine for sure

I haven't been to Gore yet, but I don't think you can get all 2600' in one shot. I think it's broken up among different peaks.

It looks like there is a traverse to the north creek ski bowl. Burnt ridge looks a little tricky to get to as well.

While Gore does have good vert it is broken up and not as continuous as 'da Loaf. That being said, it is still one of my favorites. rarely congested, good steeps, interesting terrain. It will not get the most snow as the bush or Jay but when it does get a good drop (and fully open) it is a mountain that will hold its own with anything in the east.

Do it. Gore is one of the best ski areas in the east. Great vertical, skis very big because of the different areas, long winding cruisers, steep stuff ( Rumor & the Lies). Burnt Ridge is a great new area. And less crowded than any comparable resort. For me, Gore is better than Whiteface and than most Vermont ski areas.

Absolutely. I was just there for New Year's, and while their snowmaking isn't amazing, it's not terrible either. The lifts were nearly ski-on even on NYE. That alone would make it worth going to, but the reality is that it's a pretty great mountain. Good vertical, nice terrain, the only major grip is that Pine Knot is a mess all the time it would seem.

That said, if you're looking to ski glades, make sure conditions are okay first. Natural snow areas are exactly that, and if it hasn't snowed in a while and has been bitter cold or r*ining, you're not going to be skiing them.

When Gore is fully open there is more than enough for two days of skiing, especially if you are a tree skier. There's well over 400 acres of terrain on the map.

FYI - timing the slides isn't easy, if you have to plan your travels in advance. I got my first shot last April, and it is a fantastic experience.

I like skiing glades that are iced over. I grew up skiing Berkshire East :wink:
