Resort or Ski Area: Jay Peak, VT

Conditions: Hardpack, Frozen Granular, Loose Granular, Death Cookies, Boiler plate...still skiable

Trip Report: Had a very good day with my group on Saturday at Jay Peak. We couldn't have gone at a worse time weather-wise, but everyone still had a very good time regardless of the conditions.

The folks at Jay appeared to do everything they could to get the groomers up to shape, and the ones that I went on were skiable as long as you didn't mind lots of ice patches under some LSGR. Most of the bumped-up trails looked bulletproof and were closed (for good reason). I ended up sticking to the blues and did try a run on a black off of the Jet triple which, because of the ice/hardpack, got a little outside my comfort zone but was fine for the more experienced skiers in the group.

I did get a chance to head into one of the "novice" glades, Bushwacker, which I really enjoyed...not too much pitch, and the trees were spaced out just right.

The main thing I'd like to do is give kudos to Sean and Steve for arranging the group discounts...we got a great deal on the skiing and Sean made sure we were taken care of when we got there.

I definitely would like to head back when the snow conditions are better...

That's what i figured... I went for a little BC excursion instead and found some pretty good snow to turn on... 4 laps in mild to steep terrain... North facing slopes felt pretty good with some weird kind of powder... still could pump turns pretty good between the trees...

Sunday was a bit better at the mountain... Packed powder all over... Bits of scraped ice especially on Goat Run. Jet and Haynes were pretty good. JFK was by far the best trail on the mountain with great snow all over...

I'd like Jay to rename to Goat Run to "Caution: Icy conditions"... Cause no matter how much snow they get, the sign is always up as you get off the flyer or Bonnie...
