Jay Peak on Wednesday or Thursday?

I'm trying to hit up Jay Peak one last time this season. It looks like Wednesday or Thursday will work best. I'm not looking to ski in the trees - the snowmaking trails will be fine. Since I am not a mogul skier, I prefer firm snow and groomed runs. I am concerned, however, that Wednesday will be downright icy. Tuesday will be warm with rain dropping into the single digits overnight, and a high of only 23 degrees on Wednesday. It will get back into the single digits on Wednesday night, but will warm up to 42 on Thursday.

I'm thinking that Thursday will be better. It will be a little warmer, and it will give the groomers an extra day to recover from the freeze after the rain. Does this theory make sense?

I just wasn't sure how bad Wednesday's freeze-up will likely be. I've never skied on a real cold day after a real warm and rainy day. If there is something to put your edge into, I'm happy even if it's fairly firm. But if it's hard to get your edges working at all, then I'd rather ski on Thursday.

It kind of depends on how much snow Jay gets on the backside of the storm. More that 6 inches and things might ski nice on Wednesday. Less than that and your likely looking at dust on a bulletproof hardpack. Especially considering the cool down starts late evening Wednesday and the grooming team may not get a chance to let it the wet snow drain and setup before they try to till it.

As FTN said. Unless it gets 6+ inches, I think Wednesday AND Thursday will be bad. Temps will marginally rise above zero (and likely not on top) on Thursday which won't be enough to soften the snow. Friday looks much better.

the NWS peak forecast is not your friend either day wed/thurs. No fun skiing jay when its even a bit off. Bide your time and wait for the sun to come out, still "oh my gosh" amounts of snow on that mountain.

typical J NEK, follow the wind.

there was still plenty of variable surfaces and even the pow had a reef feel if you dug in to hard, hard to complain though when it was 70 2 days ago and today there were turns blowing over your thighs
