hello,

Going to be headed up to jay peak this week. Never been there before, an i just wanted to ask a few questions for people who know the place well.

How are the crowds on holidays? What are some of the signature trails? What trails are not grommed and left to bump up?

I'm from albany new york, and I ski jiminy peak, Windham, and mount snow. I can do Double blacks at jiminy and windham easily. The single blacks at mount snow I can do no problem. Are the blacks at Jay peak at all like the ones at jiminy Peak? or Windham? or mount snow?

any feedback would be appreciated!

Moguls right now are not in their best shapes... but there are moguls in:
-UN
-Kitzbuel
-Lift line

Nice groomers:
-The Jet
-Haynes
-Green Mountain Boyz
-Racer
-Vermonter

Good and easy glades:
-Stateside Glade: One of the 2 original glades
-Show-off Glade: Can always bail off to the moguls in lift line
-Expo Glade: Short and sweet

Conditions should improve this week. Crowds are awful on weekends. You'll probablly spend 5-10min in line on saturday and wait 5-10 chairs before loading up on sunday. If you're there midweek, don't expect liftlines.

Pray for snow this week!

It gets busy on Canada holidays and weekends. But it's big enough there are always places to hide.
The woods are great. I would argue that the blacks require more technical skill than blacks at some of the the more southerly resorts. (i.e., narrower, quicker thinking, not as many choices for getting down, that sort of stuff) you can't just brute force them. Can't answer the other questions.

Tram will be a huge wait. Do it early for the novelty then stick to the other chairs when the line builds up. You can access all but three trails, one glade, and two chutes from all the other chairs. Green Mountain Flyer (not so affectionately called The Freezer) is the high speed quad by the Tram base and is hands down the coldest lift in the northeast on a windy day. So if it is windy, I would advise sticking to the fixed grips Bonaventure Quad and Jet Triple.

Jay's glades are very "new to glade skiing" friendly. So if you are not a tree skier, you'll find easy lines and low angles is such glades as Stateside Glade, Bonaventure Glade, Beaver Pond, and Buckaroo.

In addition to the groomers mentioned above, Ullr's Dream is a solid groomer too. Derick Hot Shot is generally bumped as well.

Enjoy!

TREE SKIING ... try to get your hands on their glade guide.

I love anything off of the Jet Triple. Also, I found that Beaver Pond, Canyonland, and Timbuktu glades to be moderate and fun. they are a bit harder than expo glade and showoff glade and others like that but not too bad. kitz and hells woods are a little tougher. valhalla, green beret, vertigo, everglade, staircase, and face chutes are all a little (or a lot) over my head. :)

anything off of the jet triple chair is sweet. there is less wind and often some of the best conditions on the mountain.

stay off the goat run and northway trails which are usually packed and scraped off.

should be way crowded this weekend. But being a catskill skier, it should not seem out of the ordinary (except for the French). The trails themselves can resemble an ice flow without any fresh. Hopefully that shouldn't be a problem this weekend. Good luck and have fun.

Beware of the midget skiers, http://www.jaypeakresort.com/en/jay_peak/ pictures look a tad exagerated w/ the snow they got. Talked to my mother in-law, she is in the next town over and she said it rained a good part of the day, the house is at a decent elevation also. I will be heading up tomorrow night.

The little people only come out for photo ops.

sounds like the one dude who said it was waist deep at Killington after a 10-12 inch dump..even on Gary Coleman or Emmanuel lewis..Webster..that's knee-thigh deep at best..

I'm guessing today at Jay Peak was binding deep..

Jay did get 6 inches last night and there was some great powder skiing today. Jays photos are real but not typical. I sure powder like in the shots exist but you have to know where to find it and the guys taken the photos know all the best spots to get them.

ofcourse it rained, ruined all the snow, who wants to ski crust anyway, and everyone knows already the jay lies, those pics are from last year, seriously, you would think we live out west where it rains in the valley and snows on the mountains, this is the east, just doesn't happen

save your money and travel time - go to loon

i would think that loon would be PACKED this weekend. anyway, do they have glades at loon?

jay does seem to exaggerate, but they have some fine terrain that you might be hard pressed to find in NH.
