any good ole Yankee ingenuity tricks to keeping little hands warm? we have very good mittens (Marmot) which are thick, waterproof, over-sleeve cuff with cinch, hand waremers, but they still get cold....

what else to do?

Mine never really had issues but you could try glove liners. Other than that more frequent breaks. Nothing worse than a miserable child out on the mountian.

Not sure on the mittens you have but I assume they are not the kind that have the gloves on the inside that totally make having a mitten useless.

When my hands get cold I windmill them to get the blood flowing to them. I look like an idiot but my hands get warm

One trick with mittens that I don't know if they use or not...if the tips of their fingers get cold, when riding the lift have them curl their fingers into a fist while still inside the mittens.

That always works for me when it's really cold, although I really don't have much problem with cold hands anymore since switching from gloves to mittens.

The curling trick works, as does getting gloves with a liner. Its very rare that my fingers ever get cold anymore. If additional warmpth is needed, the zippered pouch on the glove for a warming pack does wonders.

Mittens need to allow for skin to touch skin so glove liners inside mittens defeat the purpose of mittens. Wiggling fingers helps as well.

Maybe try some handwarmers. I also put my fingers in a fist when I'm on the lift to try and keep them warm. Idk if it would work with the mittens on but you could put their hands under your armpits or between your legs for a quick minute.

they work great!.

For their feet they use toastie toes. to keep them from wrinkling, I have them put them on the bottom of the toes and they work just fine

I promise these are the bomb. You will never hear squat again about cold fingers. Inside it fits like a glove. Meaning finger slots inside. Cool. Best you can buy. I wear the adult version in Montana, Alaska, and at Sugarloaf Maine when the sh#t hits the fan. Like on Sunday.

I keep my arms at my side, point fingers out, and make downward thrust with palms, this is suppose to create a vacuum for warmer blood flow to hands by stretching muscles/arteries/veins..

I guess the important thing is to maintain circulation, if arms are bent (holding poles) or folded (on lift) circulation is hampered.

I do the hands into fists thing when I am wearing my pipe gloves (thinner glove) and it works EXCEPTIONALLY WELL!

This may sound silly but I found that doing anything that tightens the wrist area even a little can have a huge effect. I had just bought brand new Black Diamond mittens and I for the life of me I couldn't figure out why my hands were still cold. I loosened the strap around the wrist completely and it made a world of difference. If its a Marmot mitten then its probably long enough to keep the cold and the snow out without having to tighten the cinch too much. I hope you get this figured out!

I got the marmot lobster mitts... on a cold day they are awesome... on a super cold day a hand warmer does wonders.

Handwarmers work fine on the backs of the hands in mittens or gloves. That's because the blood vessels are closer to the surface on the back of the hands.

I got my kids to do the "helicoptor" with me. Take off the poles, and start swinging both hands HARD in a circle, arms extended. Mincy little circles at shoulder level don't work. Hands down by the kees at the bottom of the circle, well overhead at the top. We joked about doing it hard enough to get airborne, like a real helicoptor. (Putting a little jump in helped.) It gets the muscles warmed up in the upper body and pushes blood to the hands.

The zippered compartments are awesome. We also buy 2 pair (usually in a great spring sale) so when the lose 1, we've got a replacement.
