Killington, 10/9/06

The GF and I hiked killington today. After lunch at Ppeppers and a cheap new pair of gloves we headed up bunny buster to great eastern to the glades triple. We grabbed a seat on the glades triple for a break and then headed up rime to take a look at powerline. Upper powerline has been cleared, it is probably two to three cat widths. Lower Powerline is untouched, pictures are below. This is pure speculation but it looks like upper powerline will be a marked trail this year.

This has nothing to do with skiing but there is a line hanging about three feet off the ground on the skiiers left. I have no idea what this is for.


I didnt see any other new cutting and all the guns are lined up near the top of the southridge triple and the the base of the canyon. No other big news other than that there was some serious work being done to the snowdon poma. Three pickups, a bunch of guys and a generator.

Looks like they are in the process of burying that powerline. That run is reminiscent of Burke's "The Shoot." As for the Poma, I hope they are keeping it.....

Don't think you have to worry about the Poma going anywhere. It is an integral part of early season skiing and race training throughout the year. I am sure as long as they can keep it running, it will.

Power lines used to be one of my favorites because you had to poach it and miss the cables holding the poles up. Pretty fun when you get some speed up..
Now it's gonna be like Coopers.

I dont think we have to worry about the poma going anywhere soon. Its the most reliable lift on snowdon.

The other thing I forgot to mention about Powerline is the way the immediate bottom is sloped. It is flat then there is a short but steep pitch at the immediate end before it intersects great nothern.

The last 50 feet will be scraped to ice by 9:00 on a saturday. People wont be able to stop and will be falling uncontrollably into hoards of beginers on great northern.

Kinda like where GN cuts across Rime. I don't even think they had so much as a slow, caution sign, or anything on either run. Very dangerous intersection. Along with where Snowshed X-over cuts across Needle's Eye.

Tom from K sent us info on this. The power company asked them to bury some cables. Nothing major here.
