Hey folks,
I stumbled across this site accidently and am glad I did. I just started skiing a couple years ago and been having a blast since. My question is this: I am planning on buyin my first skis this year ( been renting so far) and haven't the foggiest on proper ski care, tuning, etc.. Is there any info you can pass on or possibly a link I can check out? I really appreciate it.

As for tuning, waxing, etc, your best bet is if your local ski area has a ski shop, do it there. If not, look for a different ski shop or mountain that does it. I was told to get mine tuned every 6-10 ski trips. The last two years, I've done it once a year, but it does start to make things slow come March when you need it in the sticky stuff.

Hey-I just spent the last ski season working in a ski shop. We generally told people to have their skis tuned every 6-8 skis. If you are skiing in powder, it is important to have a good coat of wax. Skiing on ice, you want to make sure the edges are nice and sharp. Do it yourself kits are expensive, so if you aren't skiing on a regular basis it is prob easier just to have a shop do it. Also, one good way to keep your skis in good condition is to iron on a thick coat of wax at the end of the season. It will help keep the base of the ski from drying out. Then, at the start of the new season you can scrape it off.
