Location Koons Preserve - Southbury, CT

Total Distance: 1 mile

Difficulty: Starts out with a decent elevation change but overall is easy

Conditions: Sunny, low 70s

Trip Report: Normally I wouldn't post a hiking TR for such a short hike. But seeing that today is my wife's due date and she accompanied me I think its worth noting. We are at the stage where we are trying to walk this baby out of her.

Wifey wanted to explore this area. When we started out the sign at the trail head said the loop was 1 mile. At first we were bummed because we were hoping for a longer hike. The trail starts out running along a little gorge. This first 1/4 mile has an elevation change of 130 ft that leads to a scenic overlook. At this point my wife says that this trail might do the trick (it didn't do the trick we are still waiting). The scenic overlook of Spruce Brook was quite nice. The drop in the gorge is 170 ft. Nice little water fall. After the overlook the climb continued for another 90 vertical feet before rounding the bend and heading down hill. Like I said, a pretty uneventful hike but watching my 9 month pregnant wife hoofing it was fun to watch.
