The Mount Snow Valley's local paper, The Deerfield Valley News has two articles in this weeks issue about Peaks Resorts and their plans for the future of Mt. Snow. One is a report on a "town meeting" owner Tim Boyd held for area businesspeople, and the second is an interview with Mr. Boyd. As always, Peaks focus is on snowmaking, particularly with fan guns. It all sounds good!

this past winter, I bumped into a bunch of Mt. Snow skiers - locals as well as 2nd home owners - when I mentioned I skied at Crotched, they got real excited wanting to talk with me all about how the area was managed, quality of snow, commitment, etc. They were also extremely negative about ASC stewardship of the mountain. good luck.

Boyd is probably right with this comment:

Tim Boyd said:
There’s only a small amount of skiers who like narrow trails, most people like wide cruising skiing trails and that’s perfect for them.

I just wish it wasn't true... :(

Better not screw-up Attitash!!!

You know. I wonder if any ski area has done actual research to determine what are the terrain preferences of the average skier. Maybe we should conduct an independent study...

Maybe it's because they just bought a resort, Mount Snow, with mostly that type of terrain

That may be. Seriously though, Mount Snow still has some good old school terrain. A few of the trails on TNF. I hear Uncles is nice. Even some of the upper mountain blues like Choke and Canyon still have character. Hopefully they preserve some of that. I haven't skied Snow much in recent years, but I look forward to trying it out next season.

Ledge is Warren's favorite trail at Mount Snow and was his first experience with cliff style skiing. The upper part is sparcely skied and au-natural.

Plenty of sweet old school runs mixed in with the boulevards there. You're right, Ledges is about as good as it gets. It helps that it is almost completely hidden except for the one entrance.

Fear not, I don't think they are going to widen anything, but use the technology to better cover what is there. I think everyone has learned their lessons about rhe boulevard runs.

Increased snowmaking is great. One thing I haven't seen anyone comment on is the lifts exposure. Whenever it's windy the top of the mt is often closed. It's a long term kind of thing but I'd like to see some wind barriers and/or replanting of trees to protect the lifts.

There was some discussion about this at the open public meeting with Mount Snow management back in February. Current management admitted that creating the wide open trails at the top of the mountain was a mistake. That it’s very difficult to keep snow on the trails due to the width because of wind. They said changes could be made depending on what the new owners want. Maybe they could trade replanting some trees here with opening more terrain elsewhere although it would be very small area, probably like a new connecting trail etc. It seems it's almost impossible to get permits to cut any new trails now and the only way to open a new trail is to "trade" by giving back or letting some current trails grow in.
I do think a wind block to the west on the top of the mountain would help but I'm sure they'd need permits for that too.
The wind holds weren't too bad this year, only a couple of days and the entire state and most ski areas were affected.

I also just remembered that when asked why don't they just replaced the Summit Local with a new lift and keep the Grand Summit we were told they want to keep that as a fixed grip because it is not susceptible to winds as the Quad is... This does make sense as I can remember the quad being closed a few times and the local being opend due to wind.

Good vibes. My only concern: that folks don't set their expectations too high. Other than that,
