Date(s) Skied: December 31, 2008
Resort or Ski Area: Loon Mountain
Conditions: packed powder, ice, frozen granular
Trip Report: Decided that New Years was the best time to get in the first trip of the year. We left Nashua at 6:45 am and made it to Lincoln around 830. My
girlfriend had to get her skiis set for her bindings so we took the train over to the tune up shop and got that settled and we were on the slopes in no time. It
appeared that the thawing of the previous week was severe although the mountain had done quite a bit of work to get things back
to par. I had the pleasure of riding the new tote road quad over to the south peak which I had no idea they had built. I skied down boom run and cruiser. Both had
plenty of cover on them and the rolling hills were amazing fun. Got some good speed down boom run had the whole place to myself also which was nice. Took a
trip to the North peak which was freezing cold. Upper walking boss and lower flume had some scratchy ice spots but the majority of the trails had nice cover
which was easy to make some nice turns in. Lower picked rock had loads of ungroomed goodness on the trail due to blowing storms of snow. They were really
focusing on the middle of the mountain and it made for some fun and even the forming of some bumps which were fun. Over all id say if the other NH mountains
are stepping up to the plate like Loon then things should be back to normal within a week or so.
