Resort or Ski Area: Loon Mountain

Conditions: Variable each day, run, but overall pretty fantastic in the mornings and getting bumped up/ski'd off by afternoons...

Trip Report:
New years weekend up at Loon -- I'll start with today, as it was the best. Expecting a total of 6-12 out of this weekend snow, I certainly wasn't expecting the mountain to be reporting 19" new when checking the website this morning... Tried to get over there as close to first chair as possible, got into the parking lot as folks were lining up at the lift lines -- Got ready and was on lift quicker than I ever have...

First run was down rumrunner/coolidge, knee deep at least, fantastic. Next shot over to the double chair and hit angel street and dipper -- more fantastic deep fresh turns on the sides of the trails... rampasture, picked rock, blue ox -- all had plenty of knee+ drifts on the sides of the trails which made for an awesome pow morning... got a bit lost within Scalers woods, hit triple trouble for the first time in my life after skiing loon 10 years, its never open, today it was nice! Ended the day with a fresh track run -- today put a big smile on my face :) first pow for 2010!

Sat was good, but with just a few inches down on the hill and with light snow all day.. Tele'd in the morning with pretty good consistent conditions most of the morning, mostly PP snow with the boiler plate coming through in high traffic and windier area's by afternoon...

Friday was first day for me checking out a lot of my favorite trails on loon, Upper/Lower Walking Boss, Angel/Basin/Dipper -- South mountain runs and Rampasture were probably the worst underneath it all, while everything else ski'd pretty great.

Thurs didn't want to pay for a lift ticket, so did a skin up a run not ready for primetime yet... I'd say between 4"-8" from new years week had accumulated over the prior rain/freeze event, making pretty nice turns... Snapped one picture of a friend with me on that run, but pretty much the only time the camera came out all weekend --

no prob! Sorry for lack of pictures... You did miss a pretty amazing day :) It was some of the fluffiest light snow I've been on in a while....

I'd like to see a report from anyone thats been up there this week -- probably some excellent groomer days? and they reported 7" while neighboring mtns reported a dusting?
I'll probably be back up there on Sunday --
