Resort or Ski Area: Loon Mountain

Conditions: Fresh Powder ?!? 12-18 inches

Trip Report: A little bit of a late start had us leaving the Boston area around 7:40 on Thursday morning. As we approached the MA/NH border, the precipitation was beginning to freeze and the road was covered with an inch of the nastiest ice/rain combination I've seen in a long time. After passing 7 accidents and watching a 4 runner drive off the road into the median, we arrived at Loon (elapsed time only 2:25). The town of Lincoln had lost power and all the lights were out at the ski resort. When we arrived I checked both the K-Quad and the Gondola and they were both running. After a quick pit stop at the bathroom we grabbed our gear and walked to the Gondola which by this time was shut down. BAD NEWS. Well not really because 15 minutes later it was running again and we got a very untracked run down Triple Trouble. By the time we got back up the Gondola, (10-15 minute wait as only the Gondola and K-Quad were open) the North Peak Quad started running with absolutely no line all day long. The whole North Peak was absolutely slammed with snow, 18"s+ . Fresh turns were pretty much over with by about 12:30 or 1, but the conditions were still amazing. A quick ride through the park led to me landing my first 360 on the first try. A couple more runs down the blacks on the right side of the Mountain (Upper Northstar and Upper Rumrunner) finished off the best conditions I've seen in New England this year.

Hurrah!
