Went to Loon via the NAC bus (not bad at $59 for ticket and the ride).

Got to the mountain at about 8:10 am and was skiing at 8:30 am. The Gondola was on windhold for the whole day, which made for a ridiculous line at the Seven Brothers Chair. I ended up staying at North Peak for most of the day, which was as much as a 15-20 minute wait, where it softened up nicely and was skiing very well. I did 2 runs on South Peak, and it appears like that area is almost toast with how icy it was. The Kancagmangus Quad was another nice spot since the lift lines overthere were actually short; it didn't soften up as nicely, but spent the last hour skiing around that area since I didn't want to be on the other side of the mountain when it came time for the bus.

I wasn't going to head up sat, but radar showed the rain south of Loon.. so I headed up at 6am.... Expecting a spring day, didn't really get one. First run down cordouroy that was pretty siezed up and frozen- blue ox. Headed over to north peak, sunset wasn't bad -- but wasn't great... Walking boss, usually my favorite was just ok... Was also hoping like you that things would soften up... Lines didn't bother me, rode mostly singles and were pretty quick, never made it down to Gondola/Seven Brothers chair.... I think I called it quits around 1:30, and got what I was supposed to be doing done (oil change, visit the fam)...
Picked rock and flying fox to crosscut were probably my picks of the day... Also spent some time with a new skiier and working on my tele turns and technique....

Probably wasn't worth the trek up, but thats the game you play :) Another day in the books and making the season pass that much cheaper :) It didn't rain, but some light rain may have made the snow a bit more fun to push around....

Coverage was still great, and they are in great shape for spring... may head up for Sat/Sunday this weekend... anyone else in?

I was there yesterday (monday) and today. Loon really took a beating from the rain this weekend. bottom half got a lot of rain. lots of bare spots. above Grand Junction or so it snowed. the web site is claiming a foot of snow. don't buy it. it's closer to 6 inches at the very top and 1 or 2" about 100 feet down from the summit. monday was actually great considering. soft snow and maybe about 50 people on the mountain. today was beautiful but the near 60 degree temps made everything a litttttle too mushy for my liking. morning was great though. especially up high. more warm temps like this and Loon won't last more than a week or 2, certainly nothing below Grand Junction. south peak might go sooner.
