Apparently there was a presentation last night. Maybe this has been batted around here, but I don’t recall seeing anything lately….

If the USFS allows it, the big expansion along the ridge South is a no brainer. Clearly the demand is there.

I think Waterville's expansion on Green is a no brainer as well. How many Boston metro skiers travel significantly further to VT often because our NH areas don't stack up in size?

Just got back from our annual weekend at Loon. It was a "zoomer groomer" weekend after the rains with the woods and East Basin trails that I love all out of play. Still we had a great time. It was supposedly "sold out" both days however the lines weren't too bad. We were there for opening both days and took advantage of those nice long cruisers off the Gondola. Saturday was the busier day things really got skied off by one ish. , Sunday was kind of a gift with the clock change, we got 6 straight T2B Gondola's before it became anything but walk on. We also took several more runs off Loon Peak via Seven Brothers/East Basin chair (a lot quicker then it used to be) and we did several over on the Kanc 8.

All for the expansion. I love that area of New Hampshire. Vermont gets more snow (true this year especially) and is very pretty but the views in the Whites are much better. Stopped at a sunny corner on one of my last runs and took it all in for like ten minutes. Enjoy the Lincoln area with a place to stay that we really like and the places to eat and apres in close proximity. Went nuts on the seafood which is something I know we are going to miss when we are out in Colorado. Got to Woodstock Inn Friday which had a really good "Maine Chowder", saw a band for a while, didn't catch the name but they did this cool kind of funked up version of Me and Julio down by the School yard. Made me see that song in a whole new light and was kind of cool.

We are gradually moving west for winters in retirement, however, we are doing it at a slow pace (haven't retired yet) so we will be in the east part of the time. Next year we are going to attempt (winter/snow conditions willing) and ski the original Ski 93 (Tenney, Waterville, Loon, Cannon and Mittersill). With my Indy Pass and Ikon we've got tickets to all of them and its always been something I wanted to do.

If they are serious with an almost 300 acre expansion down the road, they will need to beef up their water access/storage big time. Granted we had a pretty deep drought this past fall, but Loon was almost tapped out and had to slow way down it's normal snowmaking push (they couldn't refill from the Pemi most of the fall). Loon often doesn't get a ton of natural so they are very snowmaking dependant. Same goes for Waterville before a Green build out, though they are even more limited than Loon as they have yet to expand storage as Loon and Boyne have already done.

anyone have a better image of the proposed expansion? the only one i can see in either of those links is a photo of someone talking and a trail map on his slideshow behind him.

useless networks with the use of 'ginormous' as their adjective. par for the shittyblog course.

Yeah, sorry. I am not a fan of UN either.

Best I could do from that one shot of the presentation in the blog. Looks to be a decent amount of trails without too many crazy intersections.

James Niehues has a similar sketch he was advertising and sold from 2011. You can see there are some differences in the trail layout. Photo taken from his site:

if you look at a topo it is all blue cruising terrain with nothing steep. the river is just under 800' in that spot, the true summit of south peak is just under 2800' but I suspect they stop short of the true summit, there appears to be a knoll perfect for a lift station and possible building of some sort. a wedding/conference venue would likely print money all summer.

that is my recollection too but there is a vintage ski 93 poster in the cannonball pub that includes bretton woods?

mobil handed out ski 93 punch cards when I was a kid. think it was a half off lift ticket after a certain number of fill ups. dad was in sales and would stock up on punch cards while driving to customers during the week, then choose between WV and cannon based on who was skiing that weekend. whole family meant waterville, just me and him was cannon.

Bretton Woods was added on before they stopped with the Ski 93 promotions (1980's?) Think by that time Tenney and Mittersill had stopped operations so I can't consider it the original. I have a brochure from the early 70's with the original 5 that I'm basing this trip on. Figure with them all operational again this is the time to do it. I have skied Bretton several times and enjoyed it just not going to include it on this adventure.

I was surprised to hear how relatively new BW was as a ski resort, and how much it struggled in its early years. One would not know that today.
