"We're just at a point (where) it takes a lot of money to keep a place like this going. We have just run out of money. So now we're looking at options because closing is the last thing we want to do," said Connie King, co-owner of Lost Valley.King said the resort has been struggling for years because of weak winters. She said this last winter was great for snow, but too cold for many folks to come out.
When she and fellow co-owner Lincoln Hayes bought Lost Valley 10 years ago, the money was better.

Too cold for people to come out to a low-altitude ski area? Maine people must have changed since I lived there!

Wow. That's where I skied my first winter. Went a number of times and broke my arm. Didn't ski again for 5 years. It is tiny in every way.

Hey Nick,
I was waiting for LV to appear in a forum of one sort or another. I learned to ski at LV back in 1963. I have since been affiliated with the place since then. Seeing it close would be ashamed. I can remember back when I was a kid the number of people that would flock there. Lift lines were a common thing on weekends. But no one really cared, ticket prices were $10 a day. Now that has changed. It's unfair to try and compete with the Loaf and SR. Ticket price and ski value almost makes sense to learn to ski at the big places. That was never the case, just ask Julie Parisien or Karl Anderson. It does have it's purpose in the industry. Let's hope!

Hey Nick,

I should think much less than $10 in 1963. I clearly remember Sugarloaf being $7 in 1969. Before that I skied at Eaton Mountain; I can't remember what they charged but I would guess $4.
