Trip Report:
First time back to Magic in about 20 years and a welcomed change from Mount Snow. What a great day! And I have to thank all of you for it - trip reports and photo here are what prompted us to buy tickets thru the ski club this year and the latest posts (both the trip reports and the 2/3 storm - possible rain - discussion) prompted us to get there sooner rather than later.

Arrived just before 10. A bit intimidated by the pitch of the mountain when we pulled in, my 8 year old and I decided to "be brave" and followed my husband and 13 year old onto the lift. Once on the mountain it wasn't so bad and the views were beautiful (no camera - discovered a dead battery that morning). We started with Betwixt to Upper Magic Carpet to Medium to Vertigo to get our mountain legs and a feel for the snow. Great snow conditions. And lots of it. Stuff on the side was both soft and fluffy and a bit stiff. Made it fun but you had to pay attention!

Not sure of the order of the rest of the trails, but I know we hit Lower Red Line (upper was too scraped off for me - need less pitch or more snow for me to be able to ski it), Broomstick, Heart of Magician, Slide of Hans, Lower Wizard, Little Dipper for some untouched powder, and Talisman (great bumps and on a nice pitch). I know my last run was in the Hallows cuz I challenged a tree and jammed my hand bad enough to send me to ski patrol for a splint on my right index finger and ice pack for the heel of it. Rest of the group went on to check out Sorcerer.

Snow was great. And deep in the trees. Took my skis off to climb up to help my youngest out and promptly sank up over my knee! Bumps were plentiful and soft. Lots of opportunities for our boarder to do some freestyle stuff (he was worried when there was no terrain park) and he had a blast.

Lift lines were minimal. 1 or 2 person wait on most runs. Line was longest (to the end of the ropes set up) just before lunch but was gone when we returned from the lodge.

Lunch was decent - the usual fare at typical pricing. Was bummed there were no chocolate chip cookies...but I got over it quick enough. We usually brown bag lunch to keep costs down (family of 5) so it was another nice change for us.

Called it a day just after 3. Headed back to West Dover to drop the gear at the condo then joined the masses headed home - arriving in time to catch the 2nd quarter of the game. Will get the finger x-rayed today - no one wanted to take time last night to sit at the ER.

So, thanks for all the great info - we had a really good time!

If anyone has a shortcut from West Dover (just below Mount Snow) to Magic, send it my way!
