Have to be out on the west coast this week so I swung by Palasides Tahoe beforehand to meet a friend that I haven't seen in a long time. The last time I skied here was in 2019 during the 4th of July. There were only 15 runs opened give or take at that time so I was really looking forward to returning and trying all of the good stuff off of KT-22 this visit. The snow in these photos looks great but due to all the rain/snow mix, it was the heaviest snow that I have ever skied. It felt like we were skiing in glue going into untouched snow pockets. We tried to stick with skiing all of the steep wind blown terrain and stayed off of the snow as much as we could on the lower parts of the mountain. The visibility all day wasn't great, we started out doing a run under the Red Dog lift which was nice and steep, then we worked our way over to KT.
Skied the West Face, the Nose, and the Rock Garden a couple of times before we decided to hit the Fingers for a run. They were filled in probably as much as you ever would see them filled in so I thought this would be one of the best times to ever ski them, was that a mistake! We hit one of the chutes right under the lift that my friend was calling the ice chute. It was the chute between that rock and little tree on the right of the rock in the first photo. The Fingers are substantially steeper than what they appear from the chair, we got over the chute, my friend hit it and speed checked half way into the chute which was the right move. I straight lined it and a few seconds into the run out I was ejected from my skis when I hit the heavy snow below. To call it a yard sale would be an understatement, I tumbled head over heels about 4 times. Thankfully I wasn't hurt at all and got probably the loudest cheers ever from the riders on the chairlift, but this was a one and done experience! Skied the Little Fingers after that and called it a day. The lack of visibility was giving us both vertigo by the end.
