Today was my first trip to Magic. I had a brief chat with a fellow AZ-er in the parking lot while I was gathering my gear. I made it to the lift just before it opened and was on about the 10th chair up.
There were still lots of fresh tracks to be made, also lots of big powder bumps, chopped powder--dreamy conditions overall. My legs were aching after only a few hours and I didn't ski anything harder than a single black. Took some rides on nice groomed trails to give myself a break and even those were no cake walk.
The mountain kicked my butt and a I loved every minute of it. I'd heard the upper mountain is really steep, and I found out early on that that was no exaggeration.
The first half of the day was beautiful, clear and sunny. By the time the winds started to pick up around 1pm, my legs were giving me signs that I had to stop. I left with great reluctance, but I can't wait to go back.
