Well, the going has gotten tough, and it seems that the tough are getting going. Mother Nature has been a Mother for ski areas and they're staring the February vacation weeks in the face. It's interesting to see who comes out of the woodwork with ads at this time of the year.

Now, I really don't watch TV much, so my exposure has been limited to radio ads, but here's who I've heard over the last week or so in the Boston Market:

Wachusett (no surprise)
Burke - Could be a first, at least in a long time
King Pine - Emphasising Family skiing
Wildcat - Arg! One of the dumbest ads I've heard in years.
Sunday River - "8 Peaks, infinite snow", I think it works better in print ads

Any others? Some you expect to here, but Burke and King Pine surprised me.

burke doesn't surprise me given the new ownership. they are underwriting on NPR and hammering the local stations in the NEK. the only thing that surprised me was the sheer volume and amount of radio ads they purchases. i was kinda surprised to hear so many ads from the radio stations in this area but not surprised at all to hear them in the boston area. king pine is definitely a surprise.

Whatever happened to the terminally optomistic pitch man, Skip King from Someday Bigger? He was the Grand Poobah of spin. "We've had 12.5 inches of rain this week at Sunday River and the skiing and riding is some of the best in years! So come on up and enjoy the spring conditions on 8 miles of trails!" That guy dominated the airwaves back in the early-mid 90's.

Skip "The Lyin' " King?

He has a consulting business for ski areas, I believe relating to risk management. I see his ads in SAM alot, ok, frequently.

    Mt. Southington
    Okemo
    Snow
    Killington

Maybe Butternut, I don't remember. No real suprises there though...
