Funny, I once rode chair at Mount Snow with somebody that looked and sounded like Lou Reed. I didn't ask. Never pictured him as a skier, but who knows.

Here's the Lou Reed story.

Summer of 1996 I was 20 and a friend got me a daytime bartending gig at the Wequasset Inn on Cape Cod. I wasn't even old enough to drink myself, but it wasn't a very busy bar during the day so no one on the bar staff wanted the shift. I didn't care about the money, I just wanted the experience for future opportunities.

Middle of the afternoon on a midweek day in September the bar is totally empty and in walks Lou with some woman and asks to sit on the veranda and to bring him an ash tray. The Wequasset is an extremely high brow resort and even in 1996 had a no smoking policy in public areas. I seat Lou and say I'll be right back. I ring my boss who was in his 60s at the time and a huge music fan. I ask if I can give a guest an ash tray. He says absolutely not. I say what if it is Lou Reed? He says bull shit. I said I'm dead serious. He goes through a storage closet and finds an ash tray and comes up and hand delivers it himself and says if anyone else shows up, I'll have to ask you to refrain from smoking. No one else did end up showing up.

Lou probably cranked a half pack of butts in the two hours he sat out there with his guest. When he's ready to leave, I bring him the check and I say, "I hate to be that guy, but you look exactly like Lou Reed." It was 100% him. He says, "Yeah, I get that a lot" and proceeds to sign the check to his room, Lou Reed.

Holy shit, Laurie Anderson is a big skier...

"I'm 63 now. I miss being as strong as I used to be – I can't ski all day any more, but I take long walks and go to the gym every day for an hour. I like myself."

The guy I rode with was with a white woman of similar age and an Asian women. No cigarette and no leather jacket, so probably not him.

Being at Sugarbush I used to take a few runs with John Egan here and there.. He was always around with many of my Friends that were in the Bush Pilots. Did a couple Downhill MTB runs with him also. Dean Decus, Chris Parkinson and Darian Boyle were lesser known ski celebs from Sugarbush that I have skied with. Skied with Dan Egan at Big Sky a few runs. He does steep clinics out there.

This past New Years week at Tahoe I was intoduced to Jeremy Jones at the Cham. Also met Troy Murphy aka Donnie Pelletier. He knew all my only Freestyle buddies back at Sunday River. I guess I skied by JD this past weekend but didn't know it. LOL

Ran into Drew Bledsoe while skiing at Crystal with my Wife. Hard to miss. He was a large man that skies really well. He was friendly enough and talked about how he helped get wine shipments approved to East coast cities. They were banned a while back by the distributors because of some kind of dispute.

one of my college friends who was in the digital media program at gwu got a job with TGR that included doing some on mountain camera work in jackson for a season. they probably paid him nothing. but i visited a bunch that year and hung around the tgr offices some. i specifically recall lynsey dyer and sage being there. on new years day morning my buddy went out to shoot eric roner (rip) and others.

Nowhere now, but everywhere
I met Montel Williams skiing in Tahoe. Rode a lift with Glen Plake at K years ago. And just yesterday, met Indy Pass owner Erik Mogenson at Black Mountain. Erik is nuts, in a great way. He kept the mid mountain lodge open late, and than groomed a path down for the patrons to ski down for a sunset run. I guess they do that on Saturday's.
Bill Murray used to visit Stowe in the 1990s. You'd hear about it in town and that his lift line banter was pretty hilarious, but I never personally saw him.

My buddy taught Steve Buscemi's two kids for 5 days in 1999 at Stowe. All day lessons, two kids. Steve didn't tip him!

So, personally I've never seen a celebrity while skiing, but have bartended or waited on many in my life.

Must be cool to meet these folks while tending bar. We were in Tracks having drinks a few years back and talking to the bartender about how famous people must stay there. He didn't come right out and say it directly but intimated that David Bowie had recently stayed there. This was shortly before he died. We never could confirm this was true.

I never met her directly, but I can't help but think I watched Mikaela Shiffrin practicing hundreds of times on Warren's Way at Burke. She was at BMA the same 4 years I was at LSC.

I went heli skiing with the owners of Rip Curl and Quick Silver. They are competitors in business but best friends outside of work. They were both really funny Ausies and a blast to ski with. I happened to help the Rip Curls guy's girl friend when she was having trouble on one of the runs,... at the end of the trip he handed me his jacket out of appreciation.

Was that Alan Green you skied with? I think he recently died of Cancer.
Yes, that was him (I forgot his name as it was many years ago) He smoked a ton of butts,... too bad it got the best of him.

I work on the periphery of Entertainment and Sports...lots of benign sightings and interactions over years but only 1 ski related event...2020 in Vail village, walking past the window of the rental shop outpost at a hotel.
People gathered at window looking in at OJ holding court wearing this big shearling jacket, while some people hes with are checking out equipment.
First time I was ever within 20 feet of a murderer.
