We were just talking about Whaleback and communications or lack thereof. Which ones are you interested in but you just hear nothing about?

I am really surprised that four resorts that are very close to me, and they aren't small, I hear NOTHING about.

  • Ragged Mountain: Even when I was in Boston, I heard nothing about this place. Rarely see any tickets on jackets. Now that I'm here in the Upper Valley, one hour away, nothing. No signs or brouchures in the ski shops, no ticket sales, nothing. Kinda strange. Low key I guess? Local place? Nothing mentioned in here about the place, well not much at least.

Ascutney: Again, nothing. It is 20 mins from here and no pamphlets or ads in anything. Nothing in Boston either. Their website is not real helpful either and did I mention that they never got back to us on the AZ Challenge? Seems like they don't really care or don't have enough money to advertise. But I'm shocked because we're right here in their backyard. Seems like a no brainer  No presence in here.

Tenney: They were making an effort to advertise a couple years ago, but that kinda fell flat it seems. No ads, no brouchures, no presence in the room except rumor that there may be another buyer for the place. Why so quiet? No money again?

Gunstock: I only know about the place because our passes are good here. But again, no real buzz. Why is this? Is it private or county run?

So here are some places I hear nothing about really...what are others? Can anyone fill in the holes?

Gunstock IS owned by the county. It's a racer and night skiing mountain. Kinda family orientated but I still feel its geared more for racing programs.
Nice views of the big lake.

This explains why there is no real marketing effort...budget constraints.

How about Black Mountain N Conway NH; King Pine of Madison NH; Wilderness Ski Area at The Balsams in Dixville Notch NH: and Dartmouth Skiway of Lyme NH….

Except for Dartmouth Skiway, I've skied all the aforementioned areas and found they’re all a blast…I found weekday skiing with clients at Tenney one of the most attended trips we have…everyone loves the place…and the Balsam’s is great for get-a-ways….

Gunstock has, on and off had some marketing communications efforts. ("The noon groom").

Ragged ran adds on Boston radio last season (and previous seasons), but have not heard anything this season.

Wilderness, Dartmouth, Middlebury, Black, Burke, Mt. Abram, Saddleback: Never heard/seen anything.

Other than a banner over Rt 11 in Londonderry, VT I have never seen advertising for Magic Mtn. People have told me there are radio commercials for Magic, but I have never heard one.

Your tagline is a trial at Magic is it not?

Yeah, some good ones in there. Burke will be coming to a radio/store near you...they're advertising on VPR now and when I was in Boston, I did see that they were selling tix through Mr Tux.

I have had my share of trials at Magic, but not on Talisman. Talisman is one of my favorite trails in So VT, but has lost some of the challenge since most of the stumps have been removed.

Gunstock used to be advertsied quite a bit many years ago, with their special "noon-groom."

Agree with most of the posts; Ragged, Tenney, Ascutney, Magic, Burke, and Black are all hardly heard of, which may be good for the locals/regulars who ski them. Hopefully they will all stay in business...

Which Black Mountain are we talking about? Maine or New Hampshire?

Black Mountain of Maine had a huge infastructure improvement last year and is definately worth a visit. $18 lift tickets and night skiing on 1,110' vertical

I do not hear any advertising from any of the CT resorts, but I guess they are too small for that.

Ascutney currently has only 20 trails open out of 56, of which 12 of the open trails are green circle, not exactly a big draw to ski there right now and the summit lift is not running.

Yes...I saw that...were supposed to open last weekend or so and they missed their deadline. I don't think lack of snow has to do with it...more like bad management and probably no $$$.
