It definitely bothers me to miss out on great powder conditions but I try not to dwell on it too much (at least until I see the trip reports, pics & video footage. Then I get really pissed that I've missed it).

But, there's not much you can do about it in the end, other than trying to hit as many powder days as you can when they come. That's what I try to do but I still get jealous when others are getting the goods & I can't enjoy it as well.

BTW, I'm fairly pissed that I'm missing the powder tomorrow. But I'll just have to hit an extra pow day in Feb & March to make up for it.

I also think it's a low blow to rub your friends' faces in it when you've made the pow day & they can't make it. Have some mercy for cryin' out loud.

in this instance, and for the most part, its not work at all that gets in the way. I save my vacation days and try to take on alot of extra workload so no one can say boo when i skip out of work on a day's notice.

I intend on it. I'd rather find myself in a position with a longer sales cycle someday. I have to work it everyday to produce for the following day. A missed day is lost sales for the following day that I never get back. It's not even a commission based thing either as I'm judged on my whole year's performance, not per each sale. Because of this, I need to give at least a two weeks notice prior to a non-emergency day off. Perhaps if my superiors were skiers, they'd realize that a powder day IS an emergency

Hopefully in a couple of years I move on to a different industry that can afford a bit more flexibility towards last minute skiing pursuits.

As is, I'm content though. Things could be much worse. I can bank on my weekends and evenings off every week, unlike my old hotel work where I was working late nights, early mornings, weekends, holidays and everything in between and getting two days off in a row only happened when the planets aligned just right.

How much does this bother you?
Depends on a number of factors. Missing a BIG powder day SUUUUUCKS whether you can do anything about it or not. But missing a minor or modest powder day due to factors that you can not control is not the end of the world. Especially when you average better than one third of your days as pow days. I never miss a good powder day when there is something I can do about the situation. So usually no worries but missing the big ones is traumatic.
