place: Mount Shasta Ski Park

Conditions: a foot of fresh the night before, warm and sunny day got slushy by the afternoon, stayed poweder on the few north facing or tree shaded runs, not crowded,

report: a great place for a mixed group of skiers and boarders, myself, my boyfriend, 2 of my brothers in law, Fantastically warm and sunny, super soft snow, not a lot of bumps but really well spaced trees

The resort was so mellow and laid back, $33 lift tickets including night skiing, $19 demo rentals with change out for wider skis, not a lot of steeps or bumps but some real nice natural gullies, fantastic views, we really had a great time. Funny because evryone said the place sucks and Tahoe is better, but that was not my experience, I definately would return.

Please note in the pic of the whole mount shasta, the ski resort is on the tiny hill on the far right, lots of BC opportunities here. The resort is 5500-6800 elevation. There used to be a higher ski resort in the bowl, but it got demolished in 1979 in an avalanche.

Ok so I think I uploaded 2 pics but I really can't tell, I am not too good with this website.

strange coincidence. I was looking at their website Wednesday! What are you doing there - this is truly in the middle of nowhere - the state of Jefferson! I am hoping to ski Mt. Shasta in May when out in SF on business. Shasta is an extremely impressive mountain and provides nearly 8K of vertical skiing in spring from summit. I've wanted to ski the place at night - sometimes need to pass thru there when travelling between Redding and Medford OR.

My sister and her husband live in Chico just and hour and a half south of Mount Shasta so it wasn't that far. Jetblue has a nonstop to sacramento from JFK, and since its on I5 its earier to get to than Tahoe.
You know the ski resort doesn't have the same vert as the mountain so you would be skinning up in May? Gilden lodge was a nice place to stay if you are looking.

Chico a pretty cool town - only 90 minutes...I would have thought more...you should check out Lassen late in the spring, there are plans to build a big ski area above the lake that is out there. I've done a fair amount of research about how to summit and ski, there's an outfitter - 5th season in Shasta City/Village, I think - that I would probably rent from. there is a trail head at about 5 or 6 thousand feet - you hike up to 8K set a tent for the night and then get up really early and make the push to summit and then ski down as snow is softening in late morning. good thing is the snow pack is 50% above normal - the lakes out there were down 50' last time I was out there...
