Report: I wasn't expecting much today given the BIG thunderstorm with heavy downpours and vivid lightening that rolled across Mount Snow around 10:30 Sunday night. That combined with Saturdays warm temps and Sunday all day mist/drizzle/fog meant that the snow was undoubtedly going to be VERY saturated, and alot of it was - kind of wished that I had about 1,000,000 Sham Wow's to place over the trails and soak up some of the moisture! Snow flurries started around 7:30AM down by the base, and up on the hill, once you got about 100 vertical feet above the base area, snow started sticking with about 1" at the top of Nitro and 2" at the summit of snow that was paste like.
When you could avoid the reallly saturated stuff, the surface was some really nice corn, especially with the fresh "paste" on top of it, the problem was, it was very tough to avoid the sticky tough for more than a few turns at a time(atleast on the lower 2/3rds of the mountain).
I mainly skied the Carinthia side today as that's what my daughter wanted to do. The hits and their backsides actually gave the best surface as their height helped drain some of the water out of the surface. Made 1 run upto the top, where the wind combined with having been out in the wet snow/drizzle for a couple of hours already had my daughter wanting to be done for the day, but uptop, the top third had definately tried to set up more than the lower mountain, not to the point of being solid frozen, but a much quicker surface with alot less sticky stuff than on the lower 2/3rds of the mountain.
If we can get mothernature to give us a couple of DRY days with some wind and some seasonable temps, the snowpack should dry out in a few days, but it's quite saturated now, and that t-storm definately did some damage, especially to the natural stuff and the thin areas of the classic trails.
BTW, sorry no pics, somehow both of my families camera's ended up in my wife's car that went back to CT on Sunday
