Mount Sunapee
Conditions: Granular/Loose granular--slightly icy base but enough sugary snow to cut into....a few icy/slippy spots here and there but overall not bad.

Monday Magic at Sunapee--$45 all day! While knowing last weeks powder was tamped/iced down from the weekend rain, I still decided to take advantage of a nice day. Party to mostly sunny with northwest breezes--fairly light at the base...picking up a the top of Express Quad. The winds cut across Upper Ridge with windchills (could've used a thicker hat for my shaved head!). Retreated closer to the blues under Express Quad (West Side/Bonanza/Chipmunk) which were sheltered a bit more from the wind. Altered back and forth from Express Quad and Sunbowl Quad catching all the great blue trails--facing the sun on Sunbowl Quad warms you up nicely. Most blacks were closed. Stayed away from bumps on LiftLine--not because they were icy, but because I can't ski them worth a darn. I'll take my chances faceplanting on softer bumps someday.

For my first day out this season, I loved it! Technically my 2nd time to Sunapee (1st was back in the 80's so doesn't really count). Great assortment of open and long blue trails! I like blacks but blues are probably more my style for a first (and leisurely solo) day out. The summit lodge offered a quick bite/coffee and a cozy fireplace! Courteous lift/lodge staff. Chatted a bit of weather with their marketing guy Bruce McCloy too--nice guy--helped out with lesson/daycare offerings for a future trip with my boys...will spend more time on bunny slopes then. DEFINATELY planning on returning!

Cheers,
WC

Whats your take on the weekend potential for snow?

Thanks for the info. Looked like a pretty nice day out there. Did you notice if the bumps were still on Flying Goose (under the triple)? Always scared they may groom them after a freeze.

Still decent potential for some snow (mainly Sat) but this thing stalls and pulls back in on us--a little too erratic to nail down (and too much potential to simply bypass us) but models are certainly hinting at an ocean storm. This could be another one where Maine and NH Whites make out very well. We'll have a full update in the morning as I nurse aching legs.:p

I'm about 95% sure they were still there--only took that triple once and was trying to text-and-lift without dropping the phone at the time. Other bump fields were left alone so chances are they're ok.

Snowmaking starts back up tonight.
