I have never seen a forest fire up close,... This video link is amazing. Start at about 1:02,... There is one shot where the flames look to be 300' high.

Mountain High just tweeted that most of the damage to their infrastructure was minor. Surprising to see that considering how bad the cams looked last night.
I saw some ground reports that the main base area and main lifts are good but the east peak area got hit pretty bad. the fire maps confirm that a bit.

more damage is likely to be found after inspections. thats a lot of heat.

Glad to hear they made out better than expected! I skied there once, their skier to snowboard ratio is pretty much the exact opposite of Alta. However, they were all very nice to me as I made feeble attempts at using their boxes and things on my tele skis.

I lived in So CA for 10 years and that place sucked. No great loss.

Mtn High has its warts, but it's relatively cheap, damn convenient and an important option in the SoCal skiing ecosystem - the only reliable resort in the San Gabriels. And in bigger years, if you time it right, there is some tremendous off-piste between East and West. It's also the economic lifeblood for the town of Wrightwood, and I suspect they'd consider it a pretty big loss.
